HOW TO MANIPULATE RAW MEAT

Adopt safe practices while manipulating raw meat, the same as you would for home cooking your own meat.
- You can thaw the needed quantities the day before in the refrigerator. If you need to thaw the meat quickly, you can use a sealed package and put in lukewarm water. Do not cook, heat or use microwave
- Use quality sealed containers to thaw the meat in the refrigerator. You can keep the unfrozen meat 2 days in th refrigerator.
- Wash your hands with warm water and soap at least 20 seconds before and after manipulating the meat.
- Prepare raw meat rations using separate utensils selected for your pet. Clean the bowls and utensils before and after use.
- Clean surfaces with soap and water or other anti-bacterial products after manipulation. Here is a homemade solution for a good protection: Mix 5 mL of bleach solution and 750 mL (3 cups) of water in a labeled spray bottle.
- Serve your pets ration in quality stainless or ceramic bowls.
- Never leave the raw meat more than two hours at room temperature.
- Regulate the refrigerator temperature at 4 °C (40 °F) or less ans your freezer at -18 °C (0 °F) or less. This will ensure that your meat doesn't spoil. .
Let's talk about Salmonella
Your pet has a digestif transit that is much shorter and adapted. They can evacuate the bacteria in raw meat without being affected. You must take the necessary precautions when manipulating and wash the bowls. The feces may have a residue. It is recommended to pick them up systematically.
Did you know the commercial dry kibbles can also be infected by Salmonella? There have been numerous call-backs in the past years. Raw meat needs to be treated the same as you would for your own preparation with the meats you buy at your local grocery store.
